Lama Jampa Thaye speaks about Buddhist Art at Statue Exhibition in Kennington

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

At the exhibition of Buddhist art in Kennington entitled “Space for Mind, Space for Art: treasures of Tibetan Buddhism, and contemporary responses“, on 29 May 2012, there was a great programme of events and talks about Buddhist art.
We were honoured to have as keynote speaker at the private view Lama Jampa Thaye, a scholar and meditation master trained in the Sakya and Karma Kagyu traditions of Buddhism, who found time in his busy schedule to visit the exhibition and give this wonderful welcoming speech:

The event, a display of some of the finest Buddhist statues ever exhibited in London, was hosted by Diamond Way Buddhism UK. As part of the exhibition, several striking pieces of contemporary art were shown next to the Tibetan Buddhist statues and thangkas. The exhibition was held at The Spring, on Vauxhall Walk in the Kennington area of SE11.

A full report of the event along with photographs will follow soon!

Video trailer for documentary of H.H. 17th Karmapa’s 2009 visit to Russia

Monday, November 21st, 2011

This trailer is for a documentary video produced by the Russian Diamond Way Buddhist sangha. It shows the first historical visit of Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje to Russia which took place during the summer of 2009. The film includes excerpts from the two-week journey of the 26 year-old Head of the Karma Kagyu Tradition and his students through this vast country, from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok. Karmapa Thaye Dorje was received with full honours by the Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, Kirsan Ilyumzhinovm, as well as and Pandita Hambo Lama Damba Ayusheev. During the tour he worked non-stop for everybody, giving lectures and initiations to thousands of students, answering questions, and giving blessings to students waiting for him at small stations along the Trans-Siberian Railway. Karmapa is known as the “Wish-fulfilling Jewel” In Tibet, but he doesn’t see difference between himself and others “…I’m like everybody else. The truth is, that every of us is a wish-fulfilling Jewel… The question is only if I develop this quality or not”, Karmapa says.

Buddhist meditation guided by Lama Ole Nydahl

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

This short Buddhist meditation, guided by contemporary master Lama Ole Nydahl, is a perfect introduction for beginners to Buddhist practice. Guided meditation is used by Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike, to learn a particular meditation method, and to meditate along with realised masters.
This video provides an easy access to meditation and shows that it is not something mystical or inaccessible:

Lama Ole Nydahl is a highly respected teacher of Buddhist meditation. He gives an empowering approach to daily life focusing on what we truly are: human beings full of potential and living manifestations of love. This direct and practical meditation helps you realise your true potential and make the most of every day. By meditating on the Buddha, who embodies our own inherent qualities of unlimited clarity, compassion, fearlessness and joy, we can develop these qualities in ourselves, manifesting them skilfully in our own lives. Although simple and short, this guided meditation on the Buddha, if practised regularly, has the potential to change our habits and our perceptions.
