The precious occasion on Sunday 18 June 2000 was the first (and last) time our London Buddhist Centre hosted Lopön Tsechu Rinpoche. It was also the first time London had organised a program involving an initiation.

It was part of a weekend course entitled “Buddhism in the City” held at the Law Society Hall on Chancery Lane. Lama Ole Nydahl first gave a series of talks about how Buddhist methods can be applied in every day life, especially for people living in a busy city like London. The weekend course was crowned by the initiation of Diamond Mind in union (Tib. Dorje Sempa yab yum), which belongs to the highest tantra class, the “unsurpassable” Maha Anuttara Yoga Tantra. None of those present will forget this occasion where Rinpoche shared his profound realisation of the Great Seal – the union of space and bliss. By planting this important seed for our future development, Rinpoche gave an enormous blessing for the activity of Diamond Way Buddhism in the UK .

During his visit, Rinpoche also visited personal friends from the Nepalese community in Reading and Margate. Friends from the London sangha took Rinpoche, Hannah and Lama Ole for some sightseeing, including a spin on the recently opened “London Eye”.

Talking about Rinpoche’s qualities while walking along Chancery Lane from the Law Society back to our London Buddhist Centre, Lama Ole said: “A yogi’s mind contains all minds.”
